THE LAND OF THE DISOBEDIENT. NIDA 2019. MUSIC AND ECOLOGY 2019-07-01

koncertas bažnyčiojeFestival “The Land of Disobedient” comes to Nida for the 15th time. This year festival will be presenting concert programs, holding creative ecological sessions and other events between July 6th and July 12th. As every summer, Disobedient team knits together intriguing musical narratives with cultural insights and ecological subtext, promoting ideas of harmonious coexistence in various contexts and different spiritual levels.

Musical landscape of the Festival this year historically spans over four hundred years of music history, blending quite different stylistic worlds such as folk song and techno music, baroque and jazz. Seven very different musical stories will be related. Each of them ponders on modern identity, as if rising the existential question “who am I?” and looking at it from various aspects, thus challenging the listener to reflect on his or her personal level and place in a contemporary fleeting world, full of uncertainties, fizzy responsibilities and constantly changing values.

July 6, 18.30
The first program is dedicated to Lithuania’s Statehood Day, July 6th, the day of crowning of the only Lithuanian King Mindaugas. The programme ,,Užtrauksim naują giesmę?” (“Will We Sing a New Song?”) invites to stop for a second and ponder on what is our relationship with our own state today, what could be “the new song” of today, what would the future call be that would encourage everyone of us to get involved into the building of the future Lithuania.

football-truceSoldier’s Tales. 1918. Europe. The war is over. The great empires are ruined. The old powers do not impose their will anymore. Exhausted soldiers leave trenches and return to their villages and towns. A new world is about to be brought into being; big and small nations begin to realise their cultural ambitions and self-government. Europe is turning into a choir of many new voices. New states are emerging. From Balkan to Carpathian Mountains, from Mediterranean to Baltic Sea new Europe is forming.

On a very twisty way                                                                                                                A valiant soldier is plodding homewards…

The programme is designed as a creative dialogue between the two giants. 303526fe9eca389482d304e0ed40f5baCharlie Chaplin is the only figure in the history of cinematography who was the author of scenario, the director, the composer and the lead actor in his films. He was rated the greatest genius of film of the 20th century. His interwar films tell stories in which the veil of humour conceals subtle human emotions and existential truth. The festival presents Chaplin’s most comical film with live musical accompaniment. The film contemplates delicate human sentiments and the essence of life in the background of kaleidoscopic circus life.
